MANILA, Philippines – Actress Heart Evangelista admitted that she had twice gone out to dinner with Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero, who has recently separated with wife Christine Elizabeth “Tintin” Flores.
In an interview with columnist Wilson Lee Flores, which was published in The Philippine Star on Sunday, Evangelista quickly clarified that she doesn’t have a romantic relationship with the senator.
“Our going to dinner doesn’t mean we’re romantically involved,” she said, adding that it was Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago who introduced her to Escudero.
Asked what they talked about over dinner, the actress said, “My God, nothing…anything and everything under the sun.”
She also described the senator as a “brilliant yet down-to-earth guy.”
Evangelista recently announced that she and boyfriend, Brazilian model Daniel Matsunaga, have called it quits. Since then, she has been linked to fellow actor Sid Lucero.
Santiago earlier admitted that she also tried to pair Evangelista with President Benigno Aquino III.
Asked by Flores if she would be willing to go out on a date with the bachelor president, Evangelista said, “I think dating the President would give you so much pressure.”
“I can really relate to his being single. One thing I’m sure of is that it’s not easy to find your lifetime partner. My advice to P-Noy? To take his time, to choose wisely,” she said of Aquino.
“Anyway, P-Noy has so much on his plate already now as leader of the country, so it would be wise for him to choose someone after his term, but it’s also all right to be inspired from time to time,” she added.
Evangelista also said she’s not yet interested to get into another relationship right away.
“I don’t want to think that way pa with anybody. At this point of my life, I’d like to give myself a chance to be alone, to be independent.”
Meanwhile, Evangelista admitted that she has thought about entering politics someday.
“Well, it has crossed my mind… I like doing civic projects and I’d definitely want to someday do something outside showbiz. Tita Miriam has been very good to me. She brought me to the United Nations in Yew York with her to campaign for the International Criminal Court, and I was able to talk to different ambassadors. It was a different world for me,” she said, adding that the senator has introduced her “to good, eligible men.”
“Tita Miriam is like my mom. She is very kind and caring. Sometimes we’re on the phone talking for three hours. I talk to her when I’m depressed. She cracks jokes with me, I talk to her about my friends, about my being single, my love life, etc. I’d also sleep at her house,” she told Flores.
