Jessica Sanchez will sing for US President Barack Obama at the
Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina on Wednesday
(Thursday, Manila time), the “American Idol” Season 11 runner-up
confirmed on her Twitter account.
“I might not be old enough to vote, but I’m so honored and excited to perform at @Barack Obama’s big party in Charlotte next week #DNC2012,” Jessica, who turned 17 last month, tweeted over the weekend.
The Filipino-Mexican-American from Chula Vista, California will perform at the Time Warner Cable Arena on the second night of the convention, where Obama is expected to be nominated as the Democratic Party’s Presidential bet in the US elections in November.
Jessica will perform on the same night as saxophonist Branford Marsalis and DJ Cassidy.
The list of performers in the three-day convention include The Foo Fighters, Mary J. Blige, Earth, Wind, and Fire, and Marc Anthony.
Jessica is at the tailend of the “American Idol” tour, which kicked off in Detroit in July 6 and will conclude in Manila on September 21.
Her appearance at the Democratic convention is sandwiched between tour dates in Syracuse, New York (September 4) and Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania (September 6).
