Rufa Mae Quinto misses being in love.
It has been almost two months since news of her breakup with longtime sweetheart Boy2 Quizon became public — a big surprise since they announced only a few months earlier that they would be tying the knot this coming December.
“Alam nyo, wala naman talagang hiwalayang naganap, hindi lang talaga nagkatuluyan,” Rufa Mae said during the recent press conference for updated developments in TV5’s eco-fantasya series, “Enchanted Garden” where she is one of the lead stars.
Rufa Mae added that their supposed 12-12-12 wedding date this year was actually a joke by Boy2 meant to promote his upcoming film with Richard Gutierrez and to be directed by Peque Gallaga.
She admitted, however, that she has not totally severed her ties with Boy 2 and insisted that they have remained friends and business partners. When asked about the long-awaited movie that they’re both starring and producing, Rufa Mae said that the project has been shelved not because of their recent breakup but only because it’s more suitable for summer.
“As far as kaming dalawa, okay naman kami kahit hindi pa kami nagkikita lately,” admitted the 34-year old actress. “Pero for now puro trabaho lang muna ako at yung focus ko, nasa ‘Enchanted Garden’ lang muna.”
She is excited about the fact that her character, Diwani Quassia will soon revert back to her original “diwata” form after she was transformed into a rabbit for helping her sister Diwani Alvera escape.
“Sabagay, kahit naman as a rabbit, nakikita at naririnig nyo pa naman ako,” she said. “But it would be great to be back in costume.”
Other than that, the actress, who is also known to be the breadwinner in their family and has in fact sent siblings to school and has financially covered the medical needs of her dad and grandmother, is also appearing in Unitel Productions’ adaptation of “Mga Kuwento Ni Lola Basyang,” an entry to this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival.
She also said she still enjoys being a part of the long-running gag show “Bubble Gang” where she has been a cast member for 12 of her 18 years in show business.
“Imagine, 18 years na pala ako sa showbiz pero bida pa rin ako at hindi nawawalan ng work, I feel so blessed,” she enthused. “Now I’m also helping other people through a charitable foundation.”
While her career wish list also includes producing movies that she may or may not star in as well as hopefully hosting her own morning show, leaving “Bubble Gang” is not part of her future plans.
“Ayokong magkahiwalay pa kami nina Bitoy (Michael V). Para sa kin, walang reason para iwanan ko ang show,” she exclaimed.
And yes, that’s where she met Boy2 as well. “Siya ang best friend ko sa lahat ng mga lalake dun,” she confessed. “Sa kanya nga ako nagsusumbong pag may problema ako sa ibang guys.”
And even though their announced wedding was just a joke, she and Boy2 did take their relationship very seriously and they did consider settling down.
“Pero di natuloy eh,” she sighed. “Alam n’yo, bago mo talaga makilala ang isang tao, kailangang makasama mo siya ng matagal.”
Even as she’s excited about the many good things that are happening in her career and acknowledged that yes, she has forgotten about being in love “for a while,” Rufa Mae is also not denying that she’s beginning to miss that wonderful feeling.
“Pero alam ko, slowly, darating din naman ‘yun.”
As she awaits the next guy who will sweep her off her feet, the seasoned comedienne said she is not totally closing her doors on Boy 2, hinting that a reconciliation, while remote at this time, remains a possibility.
“But right now, he needs to focus on his career first. Ang dami pa niyang gagawin at ganun din naman ako,” she noted.
